of 15 and 24 years. We envision a future where no one hears those devastating words, “You’ve tested positive for HIV.” This vision is what compels us to take action where there is need.
Since 2003, the Hughes Foundation, in conjunction with our partners, has sponsored projects to educate and encourage youth and adults infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. Hughes Foundation equips millions of people with the knowledge they need to remain HIV free and give hope for those living with HIV/AIDS, through the life-changing message of his personal story. He has appeared before more than 150 million people via Television, Radio and Print throughout India.
Projects in India provide:
• HIV/AIDS education HIV/AIDS education in public schools
and universities to teach youth and young adults how to remain
HIV-free and a challenge to care for those who are living with HIV/AIDS.
• HIV/AIDS leadership Training that provides sustainable prevention awareness and encourages each youth to share their knowledge about how to remain HIV-free in their
community, cities and schools.
• Youth camps that provide positive guidance and HIV/AIDS prevention education.
• Medical clinics offering free exams for children.
• Women and children retreats for those whose husbands have passed from AIDS. The retreats are events where women gather and receive free blood testing, medical care, health assistance and share experiences with other women who are living with HIV/AIDS.
• Pastor’s retreats for pastors of churches who minister in communities impacted by the affects of HIV/AIDS. We educate pastors about how to begin an HIV/AIDS ministry and care for
those who are living with HIV/AIDS. We show through leadership
that people living with HIV/AIDS will not come to them but rather
it is their calling to find and help these individuals in need.
• GLBT retreats for the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community of India, which is often times physically abused and isolated by family, law enforcement and religious communities.
Hughes Foundation is there along side to build self-esteem, encourage in their careers, relationships and teach healthy living
with HIV/AIDS.
Future initiatives:
• Begin the 24/7 HIV/AIDS Drop-In-Center in Nagpur, India. This facility would be a safe haven for those discriminated to receive medication, health care, counseling and legal assistance. We anticipate 20,000 people living with HIV/AIDS to come through our center each year. We hope to open the center in 2011.
• Develop multimedia educational tools in native language/dialects for year-round HIV/AIDS education.
• HIV/AIDS education to be led by our partners at the annual Youth Camp
• Begin new partnerships throughout India with existing
non-profits to give hope to those living with HIV/AIDS and to
keep people HIV-free.
Please partner with Hughes Foundation and make a donation today. Hughes Foundation is a beacon of hope to hundreds of millions of people in India. We want to continue to expand our work
throughout India.
